Marjorie Jackson, AO, MBE (later Nelson) “The Lithgow Flash”, dominated world sprinting in the early 1950’s and won the 100m by 3m and the 200m by 5m at the 1952 Olympics. She also won 7 Commonwealth gold medals in 1950 and 1954.

Nick Winter won the triple jump with his final leap at the 1924 Olympics breaking a world record, which had stood since 1911. Winter excelled at many sports and was runner-up in the State Championships in billiards in 1927.
